Haemorrhoidectomy. The Alternative Treatment. P.P.H. or Stapled Haemorrhoidectomy.
P.P.H is the abbreviation of Procedure for Prolapse and Haemorrhoids. It is not suitable for all types of haemorrhoids and does not excise the haemorrhoids unlike the conventional procedure. It is used to reduce the prolapsing tissue by drawing it into the anal canal in order to reposition it to its original site. This is done by removing a strip of the lining from the anal canal well above the anus from a sensation reduced portion of the anatomy. The excised strip is replaced by the out of position haemorrhoidal tissue, which is drawn up and stapled all the way round with a special stapling instrument.
The diagrams and photographs below show the originally prolapsed haemorrhoids and the final result.
The procedure is performed under sedation and regional anaesthesia and usually causes less pain and discomfort than the conventional treatment.
