Anal Bleeding / Rectum Bleeding
Bleeding from the rectum is the most important of many symptoms alerting us to the possibility of serious colorectal disease, especially cancer.
It is disturbing how often this important symptom is ignored by patients. They reassure themselves by the incorrect belief that “ small quantities of blood are not significant. The same patient when confronted with a positive screening test of faecal occult blood in the faeces will rush to be medically assessed. Yet this test merely assesses tiny amounts of blood in the motions. Occult blood means tiny and invisible quantities of blood. Others when seeing blood in the toilet or on the toilet paper have a faecal occult blood test which would be unnecessary and inevitably be positive.
Virtually all colonic, rectal, and anal conditions cause bleeding from time to time, and require careful assessment before applying specific treatment to the ailment.
Conditions causing bleeding are listed below. They are described in detail in this website. If you wish to have further information click on the underlined item.
